Hui-ā-Tau 2023
University of Waikato, Kirikiriroa
Thursday 24 August to Sunday 27 August
Kia mau ki te whakapono, kia mau ki te aroha, ki te ture – Hold fast to faith; hold fast to love; hold fast to law – Kīngi Pōtatau Te Wherowhero, 1860.
Our 2023 Conference theme was gifted to us by Professor Tom Roa from the tongi of Pōtatau Te Wherowhero. As Pōtatau Te Wherowhero was nearing death, he provided his son Tāwhiao and his people the following tongi:
‘I muri, kia mau ki te whakapono, kia mau ki te aroha, ki te ture. Hei aha te aha, hei aha te aha.”
“After I am gone, hold fast to faith; hold fast to love; hold fast to law. Nothing else matters now – nothing.”
Our 2023 Hui-ā-Tau programme honours our theme with over 10 hours of CPD including five dedicated streams for Whenua/Te Taiao (Māori Land/Environmental), Te Tiriti (Treaty), Ture Whānau (Family Law), Ture Taihara (Criminal Law), and Ture Tauhokohoko (Commercial Law), as well as keynote presentations, tauira competitions and Te Matature kapahaka evening.
