Te Hunga Roia are becoming increasingly concerned about comments being made by some Members of Parliament questioning the role and decisions of the Waitangi Tribunal.
The Waitangi Tribunal was established to inquire into and make recommendations on well-founded claims against the Crown. This is effectively a check by one branch of the Government on the other. However, in recent times, some MPs have been making comments on the Tribunal’s decisions and role in the future, undermining its ability as a check on MPs as both Parliamentarians and Members of the Government.
