Te Hunga Rōia Māori – Tāmaki Makaurau Tauira/Rōia Observation Scheme

Te Hunga Roia Māori is developing an “Observation Scheme” this year for tauira Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau. It will be open to all students at Auckland University and AUT.

The scheme will provide the opportunity for tauira Māori to spend a day with a practitioner or in a law firm that practices in an area of law they are interested in. It will give the student the chance to see the day-to-day work of a lawyer. The hope is the observation scheme it will boost students’ confidence in these spaces and give them a better sense of whether that area of law seems like something they would like to pursue.

Te Hunga Rōia Māori is currently receiving expressions of interest from barristers and firms based in Tāmaki Makaurau who are interested in participating in the scheme. It is anticipated that the one-day observations will take place either in June, or at the start of Semester Two.

We ask that barristers and firms would confirm their interest with Te Hunga Rōia Māori directly and provide a point of contact and an indication of how many students they consider they can accommodate.

Te Hunga Rōia Māori will, in late May or early June, allocate students to barristers or firms, who will then liaise with the student directly as to the date/time of the observation.

Barristers and firms are welcome to implement the observation scheme as it works best for them.

If this is something you or your firm would be interested in, please email yasmin@kfw.co.nz by Friday, 24 May 2019.
